Unlike its sibling, the "Rampside" (which had a drop-down side ramp), the Loadside features a conventional pickup bed layout but still utilizes the unique rear-engine setup.
While the Rampside was quite popular, the Loadside had a very short production run. Chevrolet only built the Loadside for two model years (1961 and 1962). In 1961, only 2,844 units were manufactured, and by 1962, production plummeted to just 369 units before it was discontinued entirely, making it one of the rarest Corvair models ever made.
True to the Corvair platform, the engine is located in the rear, underneath the bed floor. Because the engine sits in the back, the truck bed features a raised rear section to accommodate it, resulting in a multi-level cargo floor.
